Grid Interconnection

The engineering and regulatory process of connecting new facilities to the utility grid, including studies, network upgrades, and agreements. Three distinct tracks apply: large generators follow FERC's Large Generator Interconnection Procedures; distributed energy resources follow IEEE 1547; and large loads such as data centers follow utility tariffs and RTO processes now being reformed under FERC's June 2026 large-load show cause orders (Docket RM26-4).

Standard/Reference

FERC large-load show cause orders (June 18, 2026, Docket RM26-4); FERC LGIP (generators); IEEE Std 1547 (DER)
