kVA (Kilovolt-Ampere)

A unit of apparent power equal to 1,000 volt-amperes. Transformer capacity is rated in kVA (or MVA for large units) because it reflects total current-carrying capability independent of load power factor. Example: a 2,500 kVA unit equals 2.5 MVA.
